Barcelona! A Picture Day

Since neither Mark nor I had been to Barcelona before, while we were so close, we decided to take a tour of some of the highlights of this remarkable city.    The construction of Barcelona's Cathedral, with its  combination of  Romanesque, Gothic and Neo-Gothic  styles,  began in  1298 and was completed around 1890, following the original plans. Keli, one of the gargoyles on the cathedral is a unicorn! During the Spanish Civil War, 1936-1939, a bomb  detonated  in the very small plaza adjacent to this church,  which  was being  used as a school at the time.  The walls  have not been repaired as a reminder of those terrible times.
